Start to finish: 1 hour
Makes: 18 small bones

Ingredients
2 eggs
2 cups whole-wheat flour
½ cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 apple, grated with skin on (about 1 cup)
½ cup applesauce

Method
Heat oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside. In a medium-sized bowl, beat 1 egg lightly. Mix in flour, cheddar, apple and applesauce until fully combined. Sprinkle additional flour on a clean surface. Add dough and sprinkle a little more flour on top to prevent sticking.

Roll out dough to ¼-inch thick. Using a bone cookie cutter, or cookie cutter of choice, cut out bones and place on prepared baking sheet. Prick each bone with a fork to avoid over puffing. Lightly beat remaining egg with 1 tablespoon water. Brush over bones.

Bake until golden brown, about 15 minutes. Let cool completely before storing in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
