This Ruby Red Grapefruit Mimosa Smoothie Is The Ultimate Bubbly Brunch Drink

Ruby Red Grapefruit Mimosa Smoothie

When it comes to brunch, dare we say, beverages can star just as much as the food?

Brunch is the perfect time to expand your palate into delicious brunch cocktails, and no brunch drink is more quintessentially “brunch” than the mimosa.

So, what is a mimosa? A classic mimosa combines champagne and orange juice, and it’s typically served in a tall flute glass. The ratio of champagne to orange juice depends entirely on the person making the cocktail — and the drinker’s preference.

This classic brunch drink can take on any number of variations and our ruby red grapefruit mimosa smoothie is one creative take. Subbing ruby red grapefruit juice for orange juice gives our brunch beverage its name and color, but the real secret ingredient is kefir.

Kefir is sometimes called the champagne of dairy because of its natural effervescent qualities. Found in the dairy aisle, kefir is a fermented milk drink with the consistency of a drinkable yogurt and its probiotics make it great for gut health. Its bubbliness pairs perfectly in a brunch mimosa — and gives it a smoothie vibe, too.

Our recipe is quick and easy to make in 5 minutes or less!

While kefir and champagne are key ingredients in this ruby red grapefruit mimosa smoothie, you can still make it your own! Do you enjoy dry champagne? Substitute it for a less sweet version. Want to give other juice options a try or even offer guests their juice of choice? Pomegranate juice, cranberry juice or a berry-grape juice blend are delicious substitutions.

Start to finish: 5 minutes

Impresses: 2

Ingredients
1 cup ruby red grapefruit juice
1 cup vanilla kefir
1 cup sweet champagne
Orange slices (Navel or Cara Cara), for garnish

Method

Mix ruby red grapefruit juice and kefir in a cocktail shaker.

Add ice and shake 10–15 seconds to combine.

Pour into two champagne flutes, distributing the mixture evenly.

Top with champagne and garnish with orange slices, if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes: Our recipe serves two, so be sure to double, triple or quadruple the recipe depending on your number of guests. Keep in mind a typical bottle of champagne holds a little more than 3 cups of liquid, so multiple bottles will be required for a larger crowd. And, if you can’t find vanilla kefir, opt for plain.
